FARMING
Before David Hill fruit is made into the premium wine that you pour in your glass, it is grown in our vineyard. The vines on our estate need nutrient rich soil with living microbes to distinguish it from the fruit of other vineyards.
Vineyard management greatly effects the essence of our wines, so over the last 10 years we have transitioned from conventional farming to organic farming. To ensure the health of our land, we became LIVE certified (Low Input Viticulture & Enology) in 2019. This guarantees that our farming practices actively promote biodiversity and soil health, reduce chemical input and take a minimalistic approach in and around the vineyard. LIVE also certifies that we are Salmon Safe, and protect our watershed from harmful chemical exposure and erosion.
In farming, we don't just prevent the use of inorganic products, we also seek to positively influence our vineyard. On any given day you may observe community events that advocate for better soil microbiology such as bio-char workshops. You may even hear honey bees in the garden, venturing from one of our seven honey bee hives. These hives were put on the property as additions to The Willamette Valley pollinator highway, which helps contribute to a buzzing ecosystem... The honey they provide is a sweet perk too.

COMMUNITY |
Over the last decade, David Hill has sought to improve business and farming practices for the benefit of both the land around us and our community. Becoming a certified B Corporation helped us to evolve into a more conscious brand and positively impact the community that supports us. B Corporations are part of the larger movement towards environmental sustainability, and social justice. By giving back to our community, staff, and environment, we join the innumerable B Corps who pledge to reduce global inequality and environmental hardship. |
