FARMING
Before you can pour our wines in your glass, it is grown in our vineyards.
Long before David Hill fruit is crafted into premium wine, we are caring for our soil and the next vintage.
The vines on our estate need nutrient rich soil with living microbes to foster both soil and vine health.

Vineyard management greatly effects the essence of our wines, so over the last 10 years we have transitioned from conventional to organic farming. To ensure the health of our land, in 2019 we became LIVE certified (Low Input Viticulture & Enology). This guarantees that our farming practices actively promote biodiversity / soil health, and reduces chemical input in and around the vineyard. LIVE also certifies that we are Salmon Safe, which means we take active measures to protect our watershed from harmful chemical exposure and also erosion.
In farming, we don't just prevent the use of inorganic products, we also seek to positively influence our vineyard. On any given day you may observe community events that advocate for better soil microbiology such as bio-char workshops. You may even hear honey bees in the garden, venturing from our Apian Nests. Honeybees promote The Willamette Valley pollinator highway which, in turn, contributes to a buzzing ecosystem. What is an Apian Nest? Click here to learn about our stewardship of Honeybees.
